Imphal, January 09 2020:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has strongly condemned the failure of the State Government to live up to its promise made in June last year, to fulfil all shortcomings and lack of infrastructure of DM University within a span of 6 months.
Speaking to media persons at AMSU office inside DM college campus today, its HRD secretary Bruce Pebam said that even though DM College was upgraded to the status of a university, it still lacks various amenities and infrastructure and as such AMSU had launched democratic agitation demanding the authorities to do the needful.
Following the agitation, the State Government convened a meeting with AMSU during which the student union submitted numerous demands which included getting DM University affiliated to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), distribution of pending registration certificates and others.
The aforementioned two demands were indeed fulfilled by the authorities concerned, which is laudable but other important processes for a university, like appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor, Dean and Examination Controller, have been neglected till date, he claimed.
The DM university is facing shortage of teachers to this day.
On the other hand, failure to approve the under graduate and post graduate syllabus of the university has created great inconveniences at times of examinations and declaration of results.
This has also led to problems for the students while applying for Central and State scholarships.
Bruce Pebam pointed out further shortcomings of the university like failure to issue notice for completion of PhD, lack of proper laboratories etc.
Expressing disappointment with the Government for failing to keep its promise, he demanded the authorities concerned to take up necessary measures at the earliest.
