NAB busts another brown sugar lab

A team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) Manipur, busted a brown sugar laboratory located at the hill range of East Phaijang village, near Saikul PS yesterday night, and recovered around 461.83 kilograms of brown sugar as well as equipments used in extracting the drug.
Briefing media persons today, SP of NAB Manipur, W Basu narrated that yesterday evening, acting on a reliable information about the presence of a clandestine brown sugar laboratory at the hill range of East Phaijang village, a team of NAB Manipur under the command of Addl SP, NAB Manipur, RK Saklemba, led by OC, NAB, Inspector Sh Chandrakumar, rushed to the spot to conduct a raid.
On reaching the said area, the NAB team noticed that the brown sugar lab was located around 400 meters up on the slope of Phaijang hill, deep in the jungle, and on seeing the security team, the individuals engaged in the lab fled taking advantage of the hilly remote location.
During the raid, the NAB team was able to seize around 461.83 kgs of brown sugar, 136 litres of liquid opium, 100 kgs of lime, 17 bottles of ammonium chloride, 2 iron pressing machine, a gas frame with cylinder, four rubber hand gloves, a weighing scale and other items from the factory.
A case has been registered for further investigation, the SP informed reminding that NAB has been able to bust three illegal brown sugar laboratories in the State in the last few months.
He further stated that joint team of Manipur police and district administrations concerned have destroyed 935 hectares of illegal poppy plantation and 15 acres of illegal ganja plantation in different parts of the State namely Kangpokpi, Senapati, Tengnoupal and Ukhrul district, till date.
It may be mentioned that on December 19 last year, the same NAB Manipur team had busted a similar brown sugar laboratory at the said hill range (East Phaijang) near Saikul PS and seized 344 kgs of brown sugar.
