Imphal, July 08 2014:
One Nongmaithem Anand alias Nanao (17) of Moreh Ward No 5 was allegedly taken away by troops of 9 AR posted at Moreh on the pretext of talking over some matters at around 7.30 pm of July 2 and later Anand was branded as a UG cadre.
Taking strong exception to the arbitrary arrest and subsequent accusation of being a UG cadre, the worried family has sought attention of all human right defenders as well as civil society organisations.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Anand's mother Achoubi said that Anand was watching television when some men in military fatigue barged into the room at around 7.30 pm of July 2 and asked Anand to talk about something.
At this, Chaobi insisted that they should talk there inside the room.
Without paying any heed to the mother's suggestion, three AR personnel kept hold of Chaobi in a corner of the room while one masked AR personnel dragged away Anand.
Chaobi said that no arrest memo was given when her son was dragged away.
Later 9 AR charged Anand of being a Captain of KYKL and this was published in media on July 4 .
After studying up to Class VII, Anand gave up formal schooling and joined an automobile workshop.
Dismissing the Assam Rifles' allegation of Anand being a Captain of KYKL, Chaobi maintained that incriminating documents were recovered from the possession of her son.
She also made a fervent appeal to all human rights defenders and civil society organisations to help her son shake off the charges levelled against him by AR.
