Transporters urge agency to take proactive role

The Gungun Agency should take a proactive role in securing release of driver Langoljam Radhamohon and his handyman Khumanthem Sanjit from the custody of NSCN (K) who were reportedly abducted by the said insurgent outfit from near Piphema Army camp in Nagaland in the intervening night of July 25 & 26 last month and if the agency fails to do so, it is liable to close its Imphal office, asserted All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union.
While briefing the media persons on the cases of abduction of drivers and handymen for ransom which are happening frequently on Nagaland portion of NH2, the general secretary of the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union H Kullamani Singh informed that the driver and handyman of the Tata truck bearing registration number MN01-9062 carrying cement was detained near Piphema Army camp reportedly by the cadres of NSCN(K) in the intervening night of July 25 and 26 last month.
Kullamani added that the truck was driven by Langoljam Radhamohon (30), son of L Khelen Singh of Lamding Cherapur Wangjing and his handyman Khumanthem Sanjit (22), s/o of Kh Bijoy Singh of Wangoo Nongngangkhong Mapal.
The news of their kidnapping has come to know after informing Gungun Agency and the family members of the driver by the captors.
It is also known from the disclosure of the NSCN(K) over the phone that the driver and handyman were kidnapped in connection with tax obligation to the said insurgent outfit.
In this regard, Kullamani said that Gungun Agency should take the matte seriously in order to save the life of the driver and handyman.
Kullamani further added that NSCN(K) should release the duo in save and sound considering the hardship faced by their family members and also on humanity ground.
He set August 5 as dateline for release of the driver and handyman failing which Gungun Agency is liable to close it Imphal office.
During the press meet, the members of the driver and handyman were also present and driver Radhamohon has two children.
