UADC requests COVID-19 testing lab for Ukhrul & Kamjong districts

The Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) has appealed to the State Government to set up separate COVID-19 testing centres /labs for Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
It is reported that three persons from Ukhrul detected COVID-19 positive yesterday.
UADC chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung, while briefing a team of Ukhrul pressmen in his office, expressed about the difficulties faced in managing the quarantine centres with huge incoming of native people from outside in short duration and shortage of health care workers in the district.
According to him, over 4,352 returnees were screened and about 200 persons are kept under surveillance.
He also said out of 488 samples sent to Imphal for testing, results of over 196 persons have been received and three persons were detected COVID-19 positive, two from Ukhrul and one from Chingai Block.
UADC chairman also expressed dismay against the State Government for allegedly ignoring the 6 ADCs of the hill districts of the State while in fighting COVID-19 for not utilizing them.
The chairman also pointed out on the major health care problem and shortage of doctors, nurses and paramedic both in Kamjong and Ukhrul districts.
Kamjong district has only 45 medical staff, he added.
In the meantime, Dr Yaronsho Ngalung expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister Biren Singh led State Government for fulfilling the promise by inducting the NPF leader Awangbow Newmai as Cabinet Minister, further urging the CM to allot him good portfolio in the wider interest of the tribal populace.
Meanwhile, the UADC Vice-chairman M Isaac mentioned that Ukhrul ADC has formed a COVID-19 chairman relief fund and set up a separate quarantine centre with a capacity of 150 people.
