Lauding the achievement of boxer MC Mary Kom, who is the lone Manipuri player to get a medal (bronze) in the London Olympic Games, the State Government has decided to reward Rs 50 lakh to her.
The decision to give the cash award was adopted during a Cabinet meeting today.
The Cabinet meeting also decided to promote MC Mary Kom to the post of Additional SP from DSP in Manipur Police and allot 2 acres of land at Meitei Langol Village.
The meeting of the State Cabinet also noted the amazing feats of MC Mary Kom and observed that the famed pugilist has brought unprecedented fame and pride to Manipur in the field of sports.
While admiring the success of MC Mary Kom, the Chief Minister O Ibobi hailed the Olympic Bronze Medal Winner Boxer as "truly outstanding sports person and daughter of Manipur who has brought befitting honour and glory to the state".
He also said that MC Mary, the winner of Boxing World Championship titles 5 times is the only North Eastern Sports person to have ever won an Olympic medal in the ongoing London Olympics in the 51 kg fly Women Boxing category.
The Cabinet also discussed the possibility of giving cash awards to the four other Olympians from the state.
However, no definite decision was arrived at in this regard.
