Wildlife Day celebration

Wildlife Wing of the State Forest Department observed World Wildlife Day at Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba today.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, AK Rana said that Manipur was a beautiful State having large area of forests 30 years back.
However, with constant deforestation and decreasing of wetland areas, many important and famous floras and faunas are diminishing day by day.
Saying that the Forest Department alone would not be able to protect these diminishing plants and animals, AK Rana said that there is need for people's support and cooperation in the protection of these rare floras and faunas.
Speaking at the occasion as Addl PCCF (Cons&FDA) RK Srivastava said that Manipur is a State which has good natural resources.
There is need for tapping the resources in proper way and use it for the benefit and development of the State, he added.
No doubt Sangai is a rare animal species, other species of floras and faunas must not be forgotten in the process of protection of Sangai, he added.
Speaking at the occasion, former Chief Wild Conservator of Forests Th Ibobi, who attended the function as guest of honour, expressed his desire to organise the function in larger scale.
He opined that people residing in far-flung areas would not reach the knowledge which were imparted at today's celebration.
In his keynote address, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Th MP Singh said that this year's theme of Wild Life Day is 'Let's go wild for wild life" .
He spoke on the need to maintain ecological balance.
