Imphal, August 30 2018:
The International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) has demanded immediate withdrawal of the cease work strike being undertaken by senior resident doctors of JNIMS.
Speaking to media persons at their Keishampat office this afternoon, IPSA president Joychandra Konthoujam said that IPSA has been appealing every now and then that doctors working at different hospitals particularly JNIMS and RIMS should abstain from undertaking cease work strike as it would lead to denial of medical services to a vast number of people.
IPSA has been appealing repeatedly to all doctors to choose alternatives modes of agitation in place of cease work strike, Joychandra said.
He appealed to all the 77 senior resident doctors including those 35 who are eligible for promotion to Assistant Professor to withdraw the cease work strike from tomorrow in public interest.
In case the cease work strike is not withdrawn by tomorrow, the striking doctors should be held accountable for the whole issue and any untoward incident resulting thereof, he said.
With 77 regular doctors staying away from their normal duties, JNIMS has landed in dire straits, he remarked and appealed to all doctors to perform their duties ethically.
Even though the service rule adopted since August 1, 2015 says nothing about promotion of senior resident doctors and Assistant Professors should be appointed through direct recruitment, the Government should examine what can be done for the striking doctors.
The Government should negotiate with the striking doctors and bring a solution at the earliest in public interest, he added.
