Advocate Khaidem Mani began functioning as acting Chairman of Manipur Human Rights Commission today.
During a press meet held at the office of Manipur Human Rights Commission, Lamphelpat today, Khaidem Mani said that the Manipur Human Rights Commission was established in 1998 and the first term of the Commission lasted till 2003.The second term of the Commission began functioning after a gap of 2 years from May 2005 to May 2010, he said.
He stated that the third term of the Manipur Human Right Commission was reconstituted after a gap of 8 years and three months and added that the Governor appointed him as the member and acting Chairman of the Commission on August 25.He took charge as Member and as Chairman of the Commission today.
He further stated that AFSPA is among the issues that he is interested to work in and added that he will also recommend the State Govt to enact laws to monitor the bandh, economic blockade etc called in the interest of few people/group.
