Sensitization cum training programme on BBBP and PMMVY held at Chandel

Chandel, November 28 2018:
A Sensitization cum Training programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) of all the frontline Anganwadi workers of ICDS Project, Chandel was held yesterday at DRDA Hall, DC Complex, Chandel.
Assistant Commissioner to DC Chandel Loktongbam Leander, Swasth Prerak TATA Trusts George Lalneikung and CDPO Chandel Meba Maring attended the programme as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.
Chief Guest, Loktongbam Leander addressed the gathering by explaining the essence of BBBP programme.
Citing the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) as one of the main challenges envisaged to be addressed under BBBP programme, he stressed upon the urgency to curb this trend and urged the Anganwadi workers to encourage Pregnant Women & Lactating Mothers (PW & LMs) to get registered as well as opt for institutional deliveries.
Further, he pointed out that rising rates of crime against women such as rapes, domestic violence, and sexual harassment were by-products of feudalistic mindset of the society and encouraged the workers to promote gender equality and respect for women among the children as well as in the community as a whole.
He concluded his speech by encouraging the gathering to open up bank accounts for female child under "Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana" to help future education and marriage expenses for female child.
ICDS Supervisor, Chandel Ts Hringnary Anal, briefed the Anganwadi workers about the PMMVY and its components.
Stressing upon the need to encourage registration of pregnant women and institutional deliveries, she urged the workers to sensitize the Pregnant Women & Lactating Mothers (PW & LM) to take full benefit of the scheme which offers Rs 5,000 in three instalments for first live child in the family.
