Police claim involvement in Gangluan encounter

Imphal, December 24 2015 :
On receiving a reliable information on December 20 that some NNC cadres, who were involved in shooting of an earth excavator driver belonging to Keystone Company at Nungleiband (Gangluan Part-Ill) under Khoupum sub-division in Tamenglong district were still active in the said area and threatening the lives and properties of Keystone Company, a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and 2/5 GR rushed to Gangluan Part-I on December 22 .
After reaching a tactical base, a few kilometres away from the village, the combined team moved on foot inside the jungle, said a press release issued by police PRO.
After reaching the vicinity of the village, the security team took strategic positions in the jungle.
Thereafter in the early morning of December 23, three persons were seen coming down from the village on the narrow foot track in the jungle in a suspicious manner.
The combined team warned them to halt and raise their hands for checking and verification while they were about 10 metres away from the combined team.
On seeing the combined team, one person who was ahead of the other two suddenly pulled out a small arm from his waist and started firing on the combined team while the remaining two who came behind him ran in the jungle and they also started firing to the combined team.
The combined team immediately took position and retaliated.
In that one person who came ahead and fell on the ground after he was hit by a bullet.
Further the team pursued the remaining two persons in the jungle.
However, they escaped from the area taking advantage of the thick jungle.
The encounter lasted for about 15 minutes.
A small firearm four empty cases were recovered from the dead body.
A case has been registered at Khoupum police station and investigation is going on, said the press release.
