Imphal, December 24 2015 :
On the eve of Christmas, the Self Help Group of Private Schools today donated 12 bags of rice, five bags of potato, common salt and other edible items to the people of Chadong village whose homesteads have been inundated by Mapithel Dam.
The group is formed by eleven private schools.
A team representing the group today went to Chadong village and donated the food items.
Earlier, Chadong village had 1127 people but today their total number has been reduced to just around 600 after many homesteads were inundated by Mapithel Dam's backwater.
Village chief Wungnaoyo Kasar said that payment of compensation to dam affected people is still incomplete and a case is pending at Court against the Government's failure to fulfil the agreement it signed with the dam affected people.
With all the paddy fields inundated, the villagers have no land to cultivate paddy.
The Government has been creating untold misery for the villagers in the name of development, he added.
