Union Minister, CS discuss oil exploration

Imphal, December 24 2015 :
Chief Secretary O Nabakishore and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met today and they discussed about petroleum exploration in Manipur.
They also discussed about the existing backlog for two/three months regarding distribution of LPG refills in Manipur.
Petroleum Ministry's Additional Secretary Ajay Sahni, Joint Secretary Ashutosh Jindal, IOC officials and officials of Jubilant Energy were also present at the meeting, informed an official source.
The meeting deliberated on suspension of oil exploration activities after licences were issued for oil exploration in Tamenglong and Churachandpur.

With the Ministry of Environmental yet to give environmental clearance, Jubilant Energy is still unable to dig oil wells in the two blocks.
Transshipping heavy machinery was aborted on account of unfit bridges and the whole process of oil exploration was suspended since 2013 .
There are trillion of gas reserves in the two oil blocks of Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts.
The Chief Secretary assured all possible assistance from the side of the State Government towards making roads fit for bringing in heavy machinery required for oil exploration.
Following the Chief Secretary's assurance, the Petroleum Ministry asked Jubilant Energy to resume the oil exploration and drilling works.
In case gas can be extracted from the two oil blocks, fertilizer plants as well as thermal power plants can be set up in Manipur and the State would receive royalty, said the official.
To the Chief Secretary's proposal to take up skill development programmes for women whose husbands died due to HIV/AIDS, the Ministry expressed its desire to extend necessary assistance.
On being pointed out that there is backlog of two/three months regarding distribution of LPG refills in the State, the Ministry asked IOC officials to visit Manipur and make a direct assessment.
The meeting also discussed about arranging security escorts for ensuring regular bulk supply of LPG to Manipur, conveyed the official.
