Imphal, April 01 2017:
Parliamentary Secretary L Rameshor and Health Minister L Jayantakumar today inspected Waisel Maril connecting Konjeng Hajari Leikai and Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai.
Many areas in the State including Hodam Leirak, Konjeng Hajari Leikai and Sega Road thouda Bhabok Leikai have been flooded due to the incessant downpour over the past few days.
Health Minister L Jayantakumar said, "Rain water from Thangmeiband and Patsoi area flow through Waisel Maril in Konjeng Hajari Leikai and Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai until it flow directly into the Loktak Lake via Naoriya Pakhanglakpa.
Rain water could not flow through easily as many waste materials have clogged the drains thereby resulting to rise of flood water level in the area" .
He added, "When we were young, people would commute to and fro Loktak Lake and Khwairamband Keithel via Waisel Maril by boat.
It was used as a mode of transport" .
If Waisel Maril connecting Keisamthong and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa is not cleaned, flood will continue in the area, he noted and said that necessary steps will be taken up to repair the drains.
According to the lmphal Municipal Council Building Bye- Laws 2012, one must construct a proper drainage system at the time of house construction.
Lack of proper drainage system is bound to cause flood in the area.
Instead of blaming the Government alone, it is the responsibility of every houseowner to construct a good drainage system, he added.
Parliamentary Secretary Lourembam Rameshor said, "The State Government is committed to prevent flood and therefore various preventive measures have been initiated" .
