Imphal, April 01 2017:
MDAVO has strongly condemned the statement of IFCD Minister Letpao Haokip wherein he had reportedly said that Mapithel dam will be inaugurated within 10-20 days.
Condemning the report of near completion of the project, MDAVO said that the report is misguiding and irrational as the key components of the project such as power generation turbine is yet to be installed, no irrigation channels have been constructed and pipelines are not ready for supplying water in Imphal city.
The project inauguration plan is a clear picture of disrespect to the communication of UN Special Rapporteurs Leilani Farha and Victoria Lucia Tauli Corpuz who demanded to furnish details of the State's RR plan, final report of the experts review committee, reasons for not complying to High Court's order, detail information on social and environment impacts assessment, measures taken up to safeguard the right to adequate standard of living, food security and rights of the affected indigenous people, MDAVO said in a statement.
Despite the interventions of the Prime Minister Office and Union Ministry of Powers on August 28, 2016, the new State Government is going the inaugurate the dam, the statement said while demanding to halt the commissioning plan and questioning the right reasons for its inauguration.
MDAVO also demanded that the Minister or project authorities concerned should rather visit the affected area, bring an amicable solution to the protracted controversial issues of Mapithel dam and make key components ready prior to the inauguration for the success of the ambitious project in the interest of humanity, justice and development.
