Imphal-Dimapur Winger service ceases from today

Following the arrest of a driver of a passenger vehicle plying between Imphal and Dimapur by Nagaland police, the All Manipur Inter State Winger & Cruiser Drivers' Welfare Union (AMISWCDWU) has decided to stop Imphal-Dimapur Winger passenger service immediately if the arrested driver is not released before April 16 .
During a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal this evening, K Sanatomba, vice-president, AMISWCDWU told reporters that Md Nasir of Thoubal Moijing, driver of a passenger Tata Winger service along Imphal-Dimapur has been arrested by Nagaland police at Lalmati check post located between Kohima and Dimapur at around 12.30 am of April 12 .
When the Union enquired to the Lalmati police check post, the police personnel at the check post confirmed that the driver was arrested without any charge.
Following the enquiry, the Union set the dateline for the driver's release before the midnight of April 16, if not the Union will stop Tata Winger passenger service from the midnight of April 16 until the driver is released, the union's vice-president added.
He also said that memorandum has been submitted each to the Chief Minister and DGP of Manipur today.
Informing that the drivers' union of the passenger bus services plying on Imphal-Dimapur has also confirmed to extend co-operation to the action carried out by AMISWCDWU if driver Nasir is not released by April 17, he said all the passenger bus services will stop plying from April 18 .
The union further warned of intensifying the stir in collaboration with likeminded civil society organisations if their demand is not met at the earliest.
