Similar protest was staged at Pureiromba Leikai Community Hall, Imphal East by Nupi Samaj and Pureiromba Leikai Meira Paibi, where Thokchom Ramani, president Nupi Samaj mentioned that she has been carrying on the fight against drugs for about 45 years and added that she will continue the fight to protect the future generation of the State from the clutches of drug addiction.
Thokchom Ramani further urged the State Government to formulate more appropriate legislation to fight the drug menace in the State and make sure that drug peddlers and kingpins are awarded befitting punishment.
Voicing the same demands, another protest was staged at Wangkhei Meihoubam in Imphal East district by Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) and Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup (NLANL).
Slogans including 'do not demean war on drugs', 'award befitting punishments to drug smugglers' etc were raised at the end of the protest held at various locations.
