Imphal, December 07 2008:
Condemning the incident of killing five PCL Company drivers and injuring one, Mapithel Dam Affected Ching-Tam Organisation (MDCTO) urged the UG group concerned to clarify their intention through the media.
The MDCTO also expressed dissatisfaction to Chief Minister for not meeting headmen and chiefs of the affected villages during his recent visit to the dam.
A press release issued by MDCTO secretary Lenpu Lupheng also asked the CM why he is not trying to resolve the issue through dialogue even though he has said that it could be settled in the negotiating table.
Conveying that 80 percent of the dam affected villagers eke out their living by quarrying sand from the river bed, Lenpu Lupheng said that these villagers are in complete dilemma about their livelihood as quarrying is not possible due to dam construction.
MDCTO also expressed dissatisfaction to the State Government for not providing an alternative arrangement of livelihood for the affected villagers.
