Proposed bandh called off

The 24 hours proposed bandh called by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Kumari Pukhrihongbam Memi Chanu from the midnight of August 30 has been withdrawn after the JAC and the Government reached an agreement during a meeting held today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, the JAC president L Basanta conveyed that some members of the JAC together with representatives of various CSOs met Chief Minister N Biren and other Government representatives in the afternoon following the latter's invitation to the JAC for a meeting.
The JAC president further informed that an agreement was reached between the two negotiating parties after the CM assured to complete the pending process on the part of police necessary for initiation of legal proceedings in Court in connection with the murder of Memi within two months from today.
The meeting also agreed that the dead body of the victim will be claimed by her family and the JAC, he said adding that the last rites of Memi will be performed tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that Pukhrihongbam Memi Chanu of Ikou Bazar was found dead at Arapti Ketukhong orf August 17 last after she went missing since August 14 .
Four accused, including the main accused Yumkhaibam Rajesh alias Rohit s/o (L) Md Riyajuddin of Khergao Makha Leikai, Imphal East have already been arrested by police.
Filing of charge sheet and few other police tasks are said to be pending till now.
