JAC mulls 48 hrs strike

In connection with the missing case of Don Bosco School student Takhellambam Rahul, the JAC constituted on the issue has threatened to call a 48 hours general strike all over the State with effect from 6 am of May 2 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, vice-president of JAC Khundongbam Nabachandra said that they had submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister on April 24 to trace Rahul by April 28 .
As there has been no positive response from the Government till date, a massive movement courting arrest would be launched from tomorrow.
In case, the Government refuses to pay any heed even after the court arrest movement, the JAC has decided to call a 48 hours general strike.
Nabachandra also appealed to all student bodies, civil society organisations and the public to support the JAC's movement.
On the other hand, at least four women including Rahul's elder sister sustained injuries when police cracked down on a group of protesters who were blocking Tidim Road at Khwairakpam in Bishnupur district in connection with the missing case of Rahul this afternoon.
At first, the womenfolk including Meira Paibi members of Bishnupur district were staging a sit-in-protest.
But soon after, they burnt tyres on Tidim Road and blocked the road.
This prompted police to fire tear gas shells and mock bombs in their attempt to open the road.
Four women including Rahul's elder sister Asmita sustained injuries in the police action.
Meanwhile, the JAC has strongly condemned the police action.
Rahul who was reading in Class VII at Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong went missing since April 19 on his way to hostel from the school.
