IMEU opposes

Imphal Municipal Employees Union (IMEU) has opposed State Government's move to acquire a piece of land from the existing complex of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) for the construction of a market shed at the adjoining campus of erstwhile Tombisana High School.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, IMEU advisor Ph Chaoba said that IMC Chairperson convened a meeting at the conference
hall of IMC on October 17.In the meeting, the Chairperson informed the employees that the authority concerned had sent him an official letter regarding construction of a market shed at the campus of erstwhile Tombisana High School, Ph Chaoba said.
The letter also mentioned that the Government needs to acquire a piece of land from the existing boundary of IMC for the said purpose, the Chairperson was quoted as saying by Ph Chaoba.
However, the employees requested the Chairperson to urge the Government not to touch IMC's boundary while executing the said project, Ph Chaoba said.
Saying that workshop of Engineers' section, office rooms of Engineers, ASOs and Chowkidars and newly constructed conference hall of IMC complex would be affected by the Government's plan, Ph Chaoba said that IMEU would fight in the law Court if the Government's decision is not revoked.
Taking part at the press conference, IMC Pensioners' Association assistant secretary Ng Ibobi said that the existing boundary of IMC was demarcated during British period and the employees would never allow acquisition of Ais land.
