Free cochlear implant surgery

A day before three hearing impaired children will be undergoing cochlear implant surgery tomorrow at JNIMS, a workshop on "Free cochlear implant surgery in Manipur" under Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) Scheme was held at JNIMS Hospital auditorium.
The workshop was organised by the Department of ENT, JNIMS, Porompat and Manipur Branch of Ontolaryngologists of India.
The workshop programme was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, Health Director Dr O Ibomcha, JNIMS Director Professor Deben Singh Laishram and AOI, Manipur Branch president Dr RK Bedajit Singh as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Gaikhangam said, "For the first time in the State as well as in the North East region, JNIMS will be taking up a major initiative which will benefit children suffering from hearing disability.
We all should pray to the Almighty for a successful surgery" .
Minister AK Mirabai also lauded JNIMS for the significant step and expressed hope that the surgery will certainly, restore hearing of the children.
Such initiative is not an achievement for the hospital alone but also for society.
Stating the common goal of the Health Department and.
Social Welfare Department, which is to bring healthy and sustainable growth in society, AK Mirabai suggested taking up a joint initiative in order to discharge essential services to the people. Reports of losing mcdlcal equipment from the hospital is disturbing.
The officials concerned and socurity guards should look into the matter to ensure such undesirable activity is not repeated, she added.
It may be mentioned that ADIP Scheme is one of the major initiatives of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India in order to assist the needy and disabled person.
