Further remand for rape accused

Angry locals and family members of a minor rape victim tried to storm and attack a 50-year-old rape accused when he was produced before the Special Judge POCSO Imphal East today.
The rape accused, identified as Nameirakpam Shahep @ Santa was remanded to judicial custody till November 3.The rape accused was produced before the Court at around 2 pm when angry locals and family members of the victim who were already present at the Cheirap Court Complex tried to attack him.
Timely action of the police personnel prevented any unwanted incident and the accused was taken inside the Court building.
The police pushed the people outside the Court complex and sealed the entrance.
The people, outside the Court, shouted slogans demanding capital punishment of the accused.
Later, after the completion of the Court proceeding the people again tried to attack the accused and blocked the main entrance before additional police force arrived and whisked the accused away in a police vehicle.
The incident of the alleged rape happened on October 9 at a place in Imphal West.
The accused who was in hiding after allegedly committing the crime was arrested on October 10 night from Kumbi Naotangkhong, based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother.
On October 9 at around 7.30 pm, the complainant mother along with her two daughters including the minor victim went to the house of the rape accused to inquire about harvesting works.
Later, the accused took the minor victim along with him to a local shop for buying some edible items.
After some time, the accused returned without the minor victim claiming the she had gone home.
On checking her house, the mother couldn't find her.
Family members and relatives started searching and later found the minor lying in between newly constructed walls of two shops.
The victim then narrated the crime committed against her allegedly by the accused.
During the hearing today, the Investigating Officer of the case submitted that the accused has 'admitted' to committing the crime and revealed that he had committed the offence to the minor victim at many instances.
He had allegedly threatened the minor victim not to disclose the offences to her family.
The Court, after hearing the submission, remanded the accused to judicial custody till November 3 .
