Imphal, August 14 2013:
The Youth's League Manipur has warned of spearheading several forms of agitation a short while from now to demand basic health care services for all in the State.
A statement issued by the publicity secretary of YLM, Th Jacop said the public of the State has been deprived of health care services due to indisposition of the doctors to go to their place of postings, their inclination to treat patients at their residence or private clinics and the laxity on the part of the authority concerned to oversee them.
The statement pointed out that there are 564 health care centres including RIMS, State and District Hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and Dispensaries in the State.
There are 862 doctors under the State Government besides 319 doctors at RIMS.
Altogether, there are 1,333 Govt doctors in the State.
If one doctor is for every 221 people and one health centre for every 500 people, then there is no reason for lack of doctors or health care facility in the State, it reasoned.
However, due to unwillingness of the doctors to go to their respective place of posting and their propensity to work at private clinics driven by selfish interest, the people of the State are denied health care services, it stated.
Demanding basic health care services for all, the statement urged the concerned authority to prohibit Govt doctors from practising at private clinics.
The YLM also said that it would also highlighted the matters to the authority concerned.
