Imphal, July 13 2017:
Barak bridge of Imphal-Jiribam highway has been once again opened to heavy vehicles and loaded trucks after it has been repaired .
The bridge which was closed to heavy vehicles as it was severely worn out was re-opened since 6 pm today, informed a source .
Even though a section of Imphal-Jiribam sank near Kotlen on July 9 thereby impeding vehicular traffic, the same section has been repaired .
With Barak bridge now repaired, loaded trucks including oil tankers which remained stranded earlier started moving toward Imphal under tight security arrangement since this evening .
While Army and Assam Rifles have been entrusted the responsibility of sanitising the highway, MR/IRB, civil police and CRPF posted along the highway have been assigned the duty of ROP .
NHAI and the State PWD have been assigned the duty of repairing the highway including the bridges as and when they break down .
Moreover, one Senior SP of Imphal and the Jiribam SP have been asked to regulate the flow of vehicular traffic along the highway.
Notably, a large number of trucks which earlier were plying on Imphal-Dimapur highway have switched to Imphal-Jiribam highway after the former was cut off by sinking of road surface and landslides at three different places in Nagaland since July 5 .
