UG cadres arrested, IEDs recovered

Imphal, October 09 2014: As many as fifteen UG cadres were arrested from different places of the State by security forces in different operations besides seizing cache of explosive items during the last couple of days.

A combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and 2 Assam Rifles in a well-coordinated effort arrested five persons allegedly involved in transportation and triggering IED blasts in the State while conducting a search operation in and around Salungpham Makha Leikai.

According to a statement issued by the PRO of police Dept, an active cadre of PLA/RPF identified as Phuritsabam Manimohon Meitei (42) S/o Ph Dharma Meitei of Salungpham Maning Leikai was arrested from the vicinity of Salungpham High School during the operation.

On his disclosure, three of his associates identified as Pebam Roben Singh, Naorem Sobha Meitei (59) S/o (L) N Mera Meitei of Salungpham Maning Leikai and Thokchom Raghumani Singh (42) S/o Th Nimai of Khangabok Part-III Makha Leikai were arrested from their respective houses.

Two electronic detonators, one line seal of 'Secretary Finance, Revolutionary People Front/RPF,' two 9 volt batteries, six 1.5 v batteries and four PLA's flags were recovered from the possession of Phuritsabam Manimohon Meitei, it said.

On learning that Phuritsabam Manimohon used to receive IEDs from one Md Zakir Hussain alias Babu Khan (31) s/o Md Yunab Ali of Yairipok Ningthounai Mathak Leikai during further investigation.

Md Zakir Hussain alias Babu Khan was arrested yesterday morning from Phouden Moirangpalli.

On his disclosure, the combined team recovered 3 sets of IED around 2.30am today, it said.

The first set of the IED contains 2 claymores weighing 1.5 kg and 1.6 kg respectively, 1.5x8=12 v battery packet, two special electric detonators, one circuit with aerial, one remote control device and one 9 volt battery, according to the police statement.

The second set contains 1 high explosive mortar shell weighing 4.2 kg, one piece of TNT weighing 200 gram, sixteen 1.5 batteries, one special electric detonator, one remote control device, one 9 v battery and a clack circuit board with aerial.

The third set contains 1 claymore weighing 1.69 kg, one circuit board with aerial (big size), one remote control device, about 5 meter long wire, one square black box containing TNT weighing 2.6 kg, one special electric detonator and one 9 v battery.

A case was registered at Thoubal PS and investigation is on.

The recovery of the IEDs was significant as the same were to be used for causing blasts in Imphal City, it added.

In an unrelated incident a team of Imphal West district police commandos arrested a PREPAK (Pro) cadre identified as Moirangthem Birla Meitei alias MC Meitei alias Abungcha (42) s/o (L) M Birmangol of Heirangoithong Ahongsangbam Leikai yesterday from Heirangoithong Mutum Leirak.

Incriminating articles were seized from his possession and a case has been registered at Singjamei PS.

Based on reliable information, a combined team of Bishnupur district police commando and 12 Bihar Regiment conducted a search operation in and around Leimapokpam yesterday resulting in the arrest of one S/S sergeant of RPF/PLA identified as Ningombam Samananda alias Ashok (32) s/o (L) N Mitkoi of Haoreibi Makha Leikai.

One 9 mm pistol along with one live round was seized from him and a case has been registered at Nambol PS, the Police PRO statement said.

In another operation carried out by Bishnupur police commandos in and around Moirang Lamkhai yesterday, a cadre of UKRA namely Akhup Kom (65) s/o (L) Athang Kom of Tuibong, near DC Office, CCpur was arrested along with incriminating articles.

A case has been registered at Nambol PS.

In yet another incident, a PREPAK cadre identified as Nongthombam Loken Singh (47) s/o N Bihari of Nambol Thangtek was arrested by a team of Bishnupur district police commandos today while conducting a search operation in Nambol Thangtek area.

One Chinese hand grenade was seized from his possession and a case was registered at Nambol PS, it added.

Again, a joint operation carried out by Bishnupur district police commandos and 12 Bihar Regiment in Leimapokpam near Kabui village today resulted in the arrest of a PREPAK cadre namely Laishram Nongdrenkhomba Meitei alias Shusil alias Ningai (20) S/o L Jiten of Malom Makha Leikai along with one 0.32 pistol and one live round.

A case was registered at Nambol PS, it added.

Meanwhile, troops of the 40 AR of 9 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) along with Imphal East police commandos launched a joint operation in the general area of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, Langthabal and Lilong Bazar and apprehended five PREPAK (Pro) cadres yesterday, according to a release issued by PRO of IGAR (S) .

The apprehendees were identified as Leishangthem Somendro Singh alias Abung (30) S/o Late Ibobi Singh of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, Mutum Rakesh Singh alias Boy (32) S/o M Sagor Singh resident of Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai, Heikrujam Romananda Singh alias Boy (40) S/o H Shyamjai Singh, a resident of Langthabal Kunja, Md Isamuddin Makak alias Babu (24) S/o Alauddin Shah, a resident of Lilong Khunou and Ningthoujam Arun Singh alias Bruce Lee (36) S/o N Tomba Singh a resident of Lilong Bazar.

Four mobile phones, two demand letters of PREPAK (Pro) and two Maruti vans were recovered from the apprehendees.

They along with the recovered items were handed over to the Singjamei police station, the IGAR (S) PRO release said.
