Imphal, July 09 2014:
Irked by the 'unreasonable' remark of Vice-Chancellor Prof TV Kattimani, IGNTU-RCM Student's Union has decided to intensify their ongoing stir.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, union president Manglien Gangte said that the union has been staging agitation demanding issuing certificates to passed out students.
However, the VC had said that the stir was unreasonable and the varsity had been doing whatever they ought to do, Manglien said.
He said that Indira Gandhi National Tribal University - Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) was established in 2009 .
However, no certificate has been issued to any passed out student till date barring them from applying for any job, he said.
In protest against the negligence of the varsity authority, the union launched a 'shut down' stir on June 3, he said and added that effigies of Social Science Dean Prof Tripathy and Vice-Chancellor Prof TV Kattimani were set on fire on June 21 as part of the stir.
However, the VC neither fulfilled the demand of the students within the given deadline of June 30 nor heeded to the directive of the Chief Secretary, he added.
At this juncture, the VC has made his remark that the ongoing stir is unreasonable, Manglien said and added that the VC must be responsible for any untoward incident as the union would intensify its stir.
Taking part at the press conference, Tribal Youth Council Manipur spokesperson, M Tonkham Maring pledged support to the stir of IGNTU students.
He questioned how Prof TV Kattimani would look after the management of the Regional Campus as he is currently stationed outside the State.
He also questioned whether the State does not have any Professor, who is competent for the post of Vice Chancellor.
The Regional Campus currently has 120 students.
