National Deworming Day on Feb 10

State Medical department is all set to administer deworming tablets to more than 10,67 300 children all over the State on National Deworming Day which falls on Feb 10 .
Dr O Ibomcha, Director Health Services during an interaction with media persons at his office chamber today said that the State Health Department in collaboration with the Education and Social Welfare Depts will administer deworming tablets to children in the age group of 1-19 years.
The children get infected with different worms while playing barefoot, eating food without washing hand, defecating in open and unclean surrounding.
After the worms enter the stomach, the children lose appetite resulting in body weakness and anxiety, anaemia, nutritional impairment, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting and blood in stool.
A district level monitoring committee has been formed for all the nine districts, he added.
4,516 schools and 11,800 Anganwadi centres will be covered, Dr Ibomcha said while appealing to all concerned to extend maximum cooperation for the success of the programme.
Children who are yet to be enrolled in schools will be administered the deworming tablets through ASHA workers of their respective localities, Dr Ibomcha added.
Children who could not be dewormed on the day should be given the tablet on mop-up day, ie, Feb 16, he stated.
Dr Ibomcha further said that there is no side effect in administering Albendazole tablet to control worm infection on children.
