Imphal, October 26 2011:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) has expressed resentment to the State Government and department concerned for creating unnecessary delay in the completion of a bailey bridge constructed over Barak river between Dikiuram and Katang villages.
The construction work of the bailey bridge is yet to complete although the work was started in February 2008 at the cost Rs 72 lakhs with North Eastern Council (NEC) as the funding agency and the State Works Department being the work implementing agency, said a press release.
On the otherhand, the press release added, Serou Bridge of Sugnu Assembly Constituency which was started in the same year at the cost Rs 19 Crores was inaugurated by Chief Minister O Ibobi on October 24 .
The Chief Minister, who was the chief guest of the inauguration function said that it was the most joyous moment of the Government and the Works Minister claimed it a dream turned into reality.
The State Government branded the bridge as an 'engineering marvel' of the Works Department for constructing such a huge concrete bridge within a short period of only two years.
A big concrete bridge can be completed within two years in the valley district but unable to do equal justice to a bailey bridge in the hill district is another 'engineering marvel' of the State Works Department for its 'deliberate delayed skill', the press release added.
ZYF-AMN said that it totally contradicts to the Chief Minister stating for equal development of both valley and hills.
During a meeting, ZYF told the contractor and departmental engineers to complete the bailey bridge within October, however, the contractor and engineers expressed inability on citing reason of some technical procedures has to be followed such as giving enough time for cementing to dry etc but the students' body set deadline for completion of the said bridge within December especially before Christmas festival.
The press release added that it is a long pending demand of Zeliangrong people to have connectivity but it is ignored and neglected by the State Government for many years.
It further said that ZYF-AMN may seek Central Government's intervention and monitoring for all major developmental works undergoing in Zeliangrong areas in order to achieve the intended objective.
