Twin blast rocks Imphal

In a chilling reminder of the 2008 Diwali bomb blast at Ragailong that claimed the lives of 18 people besides injuring 16 others, two bombs exploded in quick succession at Thangal bazar today at about 8 pm injuring people, including children and three women.
One of the injured has been admitted to Raj Poly Clinic while the rest have been taken to RIMS.
The injured have been identified as Sultana (20) daughter of Rahima of Kshetrigaon Awang Leikai, Manisha Shekhawat (12) (Admitted to Raj Poly Clinic) and her brother Manish Shekhawat, children of Dasarath of Alu Galli, Kusum Aggarwal (28) and her husband Nitesh Aggarwal (30) son of Om Prakash of Paona bazar, Md Farooque Khan (23) son Yakub Ali of Liliong Mayai Leikai and Mustakim (16) son of Ziauddin of Masjid Road.

The first bomb went off at about 8 pm at the staircase of the Indian Overseas Bank, north of Alu Galli and the second bomb exploded a few minutes later outside a shop located some distance from the spot of the first blast.
The owner of the shop named Milan Enterprises has been identified as one Bijoy Jain.
The impact of the blast at the IOB tore apart the iron grilled gate of the bank.
Police at the blast sites said that they suspect the blasts may have been triggered by IEDs.
When The Sangai Express contacted the Additional SP of Imphal West police N Heorjit, he said that the blasts may have been triggered by IEDs.
The police officer said that the two bombs could have been activated through timer devices judging from the manner in which the two went off one after the other.
The bombs could have been planted earlier and activated later through the devices, he said but refused to divulge on any suspects the police may have.
As to which bomb went off first, he said that it can be known only later.
