Imphal, October 26 2011:
On the auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakkouba festival, the proscribed RPF has conveyed best wishes to all womenfolk of the land.
A press release issued by the outfit's Publicity Secretary T Leishemba observed that Ningol Chakkhouba is the only event which keeps alive the bond between married women and their parents and brothers.
In place of the earlier tradition of presenting simple gifts by parents and brothers to their daughters and sisters which were mainly domestic produces, a new trend of presenting expensive, imported items on Ningol Chakkouba day has swept the society since some years back.
The festival has undergone a drastic change with the women and their parents taking it as an occasion of competition to present or extract the most expensive gifts, it noted.
As such, Ningol Chakkouba has turned out to be a day of heartache and humiliation for many women and their poor parents/brothers.
Highlighting the significance and real essence of the Ningol Chakkouba festival, RPF appealed to all the people not to take Ningol Chakkhouba as an occasion for competition of expensive presents.
