In connection with the International Women's Day observance a seminar on 'Women's Empowerment' was organised by Working Women forum Manipur at Hapta Kangjeibung today.
As chief guest of the seminar's inauguration programme, Deputy Labour Commissioner E Tomba Singh emphasised that women's empowerment would be a reality only when the womenfolk work together and unitedly.
Noting contributions of Manipuri womenfolk in both maintaining their respective families and playing important role in the society whenever the need arises, he exhorted the younger generation to aim for further excellence in every aspect.
President of event host Prof Th Bedamani Devi stated that the Forum is focused in not only upholding women's rights but to identify crux of the problems besetting Manipuri women.
Rather confining oneself in domestic chores there is need for Manipuri women to take active role in issues that could facilitate women fully enjoy their political rights, she said.
A special edition of 'Sinmee' journal published by All India Trade union congress, Manipur was also released at the occasion.
the event was also attended by social activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, AITUC State general secretary L Sotinkumar, CITUC Manipur secretary Ksh Shanta, TUCC Manipur secretary Gyaneshwar Singh and Manipur University faculty member Dr Chinglen Maisnam.
