Imphal, March 14:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has come out strongly against the incident of thrashing a class X Board examination appearing student by a person in civvies coming along with personnel of 34 Assam Rifles posted at Yairipok Bishnunaha at Tulihal Airport Awang Leikai in the wee hours of March 12. Addressing a press conference in this connection at its Keishampat Head office today, secretary general of DESAM Yumnam Ratankumar said the incident of beating up the student identified Keinoumayum Ali Akbar s/o late Abdul Rasid of Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai could not be taken very lightly.
Ali Akbar is an innocent student and beating him up by a person in civvies coming along with personnel of 34 Assam Rifles should be considered as a direct challenge on the whole student community.
So, DESAM would not remain quite, Ratankumar stated firmly.
While decrying the alleged conduct of the security forces to harass and kill innocent students, the student leader demanded the authorities concerned to identify the guilty personnel conduct for taking up necessary action.
The police station concerned should also register a case in connection with the incident so as to book the guilty personnel.
Otherwise, DESAM is prepared to launch various intense agitation, Ratankumar said.
On the other hand, the student leader described the incident of not allowing the inspection teams of DESAM to enter some examination centres of the ongoing class X and XII examination by the OCs concerned as unfortunate. The hesitation of the OCs in allowing the inspection teams of DESAM to enter the examination centres show that something fishy is going on and the examinations are not being conducted in a free and fair manner, Ratankumar alleged.
He further said that DESAM has found out that unfair means are being allowed to use in the examination in some of the centres at Nambol and Mayang Imphal.
So the OCs and the invigilators concerned of these examination centres should come to the office of the DESAM at the earliest possible, he directed.
