North East Students' Co-ordinating Committee on Manipuri Identity (NESCOCOMI) will organise the 6th Manipuri National Convention between April 25 and 28 at Inter-state Bus Terminus, Silchar, Assam.
As decided in the 5th convention, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) will host this year's convention.
Briefing the media, with AMSU secretary general Premananda Tongbram at AMSU headquarters today, NESCOCOMI president Oinam Maniton said that delegates from only 30 percent of the total Manipuri settlement could participate in the last convention.
However, this time, the committee has made arrangements to enable people from areas like Sibsagar, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Jorhat, North Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Barpeta, Agartala, Dharmanagar, Nagaon and Guwahati, to join the convention.
Maniton said that representatives of Tura Manipuri Tengbang Lup and delegates from Shillong will also take part in the four-day convention.
The committee has also got assurances from the Manipuris of Bangladesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur, he added.
Maniton further said that an introductory programme for popular Manipuri personalities from various fields will also be organised during the convention.
This will include an introduction with Miss Bangladesh, he added.
The delegates will also pay floral tributes to the statues of patriots at Itkhola Point, Airport Road, Lakhipur, Badarpur and Lala town on the opening day, Maniton added.
Informing that apart from various tribes from Manipur, Assamese indigenous communities like Bodo, Karbi and Dhimasha will also participate, the president said that nearly 1000 delegates from different parts of NE region and Bangladesh are expected to take part in the convention.
