Imphal, December 01:
Castigating Congress led UPA Government at the Centre as anti-people, State BJP unit today staged a dharna against hike in prices of Petrol, Diesel and LP Gas here at Imphal as part of the Nation-wide protest being organised by BJP.
The protest demonstration held in front of the Old Lambulane office headquarters of the State BJP unit was led by unit president and ex-MP Th Chaoba and attended by many party leaders-and workers coming from different parts of the State.
Placards with wordings denouncing the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre for its alleged anti-people policies were put up at the site.
Defying the silence zone, the demonstrators also took out a rally till Raj Bhavan gate shouting slogans against hike in prices of fuel and essential commodities, prompting police action.
Later, a team of party workers led by unit president Th Chaoba went inside the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to Governor SS Sidhu to highlight the grievances.
The team also reportedly urged the Governor to cancel the Kerosene quota issued to the MLAs in view of the allegation that the said quotas are being sold out in black market thereby creating artificial scarcity of Kerosene and making it difficult for the people to get Kerosene.
Earlier talking to media persons, Chaoba said sudden hike in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG by the Congress led UPA Government has given more burden to the common people.
The Government at the Centre is anti-people, he said.
Chaoba charged Congress with betraying the people of its promise made before the Parliamentary election as well as announcement made in the Common Minimum Programme to work for the welfare of farmers and labourers by hiking the prices of fuel and essential commodities.
The Public Distribution System of the Congress led SPF Government in the State too has failed.
Instead of working for the welfare of the people, the SPF Government is more interested in launching eviction drive, he further charged.
He also made it clear that BJP would continue to agitate till the prices of the fuel and other essential commodities were not brought down.
