Imphal, April 27 2018:
Manipur Building & Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board has urged the old and new labour unions to sort out their differences, if any, and work collectively towards the welfare of the labours.
Addressing media persons today, S Preshyojit Sharma, chairperson of Manipur Building & Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board expressed concern over the publication of contradictory claims made by old and new labour unions in local dailies recently.
He appealed to the opposing parties to come to the negotiating table and resolve their differences instead of levelling allegations against each other in media.
Quoting Trade Union Act, he said that old labour unions cannot cause obstruction to the formation of new labour unions as any trade union is a non-profit organisation.
He asserted that formation of more labour unions in the State is appreciable as they intend to work for the welfare of the labours.
He clarified that benefit claim for the labours for the year 2013 has already been provided and the same for the year 2014-17 will also be provided after the completion of cross verification.
During the course of cross verification, many labours were found working as pharmacists, shopkeepers and Government employees.
Such non-labours should be removed from the list of benefit claim, he said.
He admitted that a considerable amount of time has been taken in making such corrections as the board is facing acute shortage of staff.
He also informed that following an initiative of the Chief Minister, now labour card can be made through the concerned DCs and SDOs without taking much time and money.
He further informed that a website of Manipur Building & Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board has been launched from which one can ascertain various schemes for the labours, registration of labour card, Acts and rules meant for labours.
