Two labourers die

Imphal, April 25 2013:
Two labourers who went down a main hole of the Imphal Sewerage Project to clean the hole at Kekrupat have died mysteriously.
The labourers identified as Elangbam Ranjit (45) s/o late Birchandra and Elangbam Indra (35) s/o Tomba, both belonging to Tentha Mayai Leikai were declared brought dead at RIMS at about 8.30 am today.
The duo were hired by a contractor to clean the sewerage main hole.
Indra went down the hole first.
As he failed to come up, Ranjit followed suit.
Both of them collapsed inside the hole either due to inhalation of poisonous gas or asphyxiation.
Both the corpses have been deposited at RIMS mortuary.
Meanwhile.
Imphal police station OC has written to the Manipur Pollution Control Board to investigate and ascertain the cause of death of the two labourers.
Accordingly, a team of MPCB would conduct a spot investigation tomorrow.
Notably, there were cases of people being killed after they fell into main holes of the sewerage project accidentally.
