Imphal, October 24 2020:
The All Manipur Nupi Marup has expressed that the recent report of mass COVID-19 infection of doctors and staff of JNIMS should not be taken lightly.
The cause of such a mass infection of doctors and staff of one of the key hospitals in the State, JNIMS who had successfully treated the first COVID-19 patient, should be probed thoroughly by constituting a high power committee, said the women body demanding the Health Minister to do the needful.
Despite the fact that there is no treatment or cure for the disease, the doctors in the State with strict observation of guidelines issued by WHO, ICMR and Union Health Ministry, were treating COVID-19 infected persons well, it said while mentioning the outstanding dedication shown by Dr Uthan.
The issue, however, went out of hand due to gradual rise since May and the situation could have been handled if the State Government had taken note of the suggestions for augmenting infrastructure and increasing manpower, extended by the All Manipur Nupi Marup and other CSOs, it said.
India has already witnessed cases of rampant anomalies while procuring equipment for use in combating COVID-19, nexus with medical suppliers and as such there is a need to inspect the quality of kits and equipment the State had procured with the approval of the Health Ministry.
If the said matters are not attended well, doctors and staff working at other hospitals may have the same fate as the doctors and staff of JNIMS did, the statement added.
