Further hearing on Chamol Sajik Tampak ambush on Oct 29

Special Judge NIA Manipur yesterday fixed October 29 for charge hearing against accused Thangjam Achou @ Achan and Chandam Tondon with regard to the chargesheet submitted by NIA in connection with the ambush on 4th Assam Rifles ROP team at Chamol Sajik Tampak road on November 15, 2017 .
The ambush had left one Assam Rifles personnel dead and three others injured.
The accused persons Thangjam Achou @ Achan and Chandam Tondon were produced before the Court through video conference from Sajiwa Jail.
During the hearing, accused Chandam Tondon Singh submitted that he was not in a position to engage an Advocate for his defence on his own and prayed the Court to appoint one.
The Court then appointed Ch Bimolchandra Singh as Counsel of the accused.
It may be mentioned that in January 2020, the NIA after investigating the case had submitted the chargesheets against accused persons, Laishram Priyokumar @ Amuthoi @ Ibomcha, Thangjam Achou @ Achan and three others who were on the run identified as Koijam Ibochouba @ Sumo, Mayanglambam Siromani @ Kesper and Thokchom Ningthem @ Feijoijamba under various Sections of IPC and UAPA Act.
The chargesheets alleged that cadres of People's Liberation Army (PLA) and Manipur Naga People's Front (MNPF) had carried out the ambush on a road opening party (ROP) of 4th Assam Rifles at Chamol Sajik Tampak Road on November 15, 2017 killing one AR personnel and injuring others.
Two UG cadres were also killed in the ambush.
