World Photography Day celebrated

Manipur Amateur Photo Club (MAPC) celebrated World Photography Day at Manipur Press Club with Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar and AMWJU president A Mobi gracing the occasion as the chief guest and president respectively.
Imphal free Press editor Irengbam Arun, ISTV chief editor Yumnam Rupachandra and MAPC president Yambem Laba attended the celebration as the guests of honour.
Offering of floral tributes to departed eminent photographers and presentation of mementos to present-day photographers were the highlight of the global event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ratankumar noted that due to long-lasting impact and influence of images, photography remains an integral part of not only newspapers and journals but an essential medium of learning/education.
Owing to its powerful impact upon the people, photography needs to be handled with utmost responsibility, opined the Minister who also to contribute his mite in case MAPC plans to set-up a photo gallery.
In his address, A Mobi suggested that taking into account the powerful message contained in photographs no image likely to disturb the onlookers or hurt sentiment of others should be published.
As an image is more impressive than the write-ups of the particular subject focus should be on enriching the issue and not to create repulsion.
Irengbam Arun, in his speech highlighted need for setting up a photo gallery to preserve old and important photos.
He also proposed that orientation programmes on photography be organised on a regular basis for the media persons.
