Accused convicted under POCSO Act

Special Judge POCSO, Imphal West, RK Memcha, convicted a 40 year old founder cum biology teacher of a coaching institute, under POCSO Act for sexually assaulting a minor student on September 6, 2017, apart from fixing January 15 for the sentence hearing.
The judgment was announced today, following the final hearing against the convict Laishram Ratankumar alias Akash of Thoubal (presently staying at Uripok Polem Leikai) .
Ratankumar has been lodged at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa since the case was registered against him for sexually assaulting the student.
The case began after the father of the student filed a complaint to the OC of Imphal PS on September 6 (2017) narrating that on that day, his daughter suffered abdominal pain during her coaching class in a coaching centre located at Uripok (near fly over bridge) .
It alleged that Ratankumar, who is the biology teacher and the founder of the coaching centre, took the victim to an isolated room and gave her some medicine.
However he started molesting the victim.
The convict also warned the victim against disclosing the incident to anybody.
Based on the complaint, a regular case was registered against the convict at Imphal West women PS and Ratankumar was arrested.
During the course of the investigation, Ratankumar admitted to the charges levelled against him and revealed that he had molested the victim on pretext of searching for her mobile phone.
Charge sheet was submitted against the convict in the early, part of 2018 and charges were framed against him under POCSO Act on April 12 the same year for trial.
Following the trial and after going through the submissions and the materials on record, the Court convicted Laishram, Ratankumar under POCSO Act and fixed January 15 for the sentence hearing against him.
