Imphal, October 11 2016:
After two senior Congress MLAs have resigned from the party's primary leadership, 49 (ST) Tadubi Assembly Constituency MLA Francis Ngajokpa has come under intense pressure to quit the party.
Workers and supporters of Francis Ngajokpa held a meeting at Maram Centre today and the MLA, though not present, was asked to resign from Congress party as well as from the post of MLA.
The MLA was supposed to attend the meeting but in a strange turn of events, he was asked to return to Imphal midway saying that they (workers/supporters) would not allow him (Francis Ngajokpa) to come to the Assembly Constituency unless he resigns from the primary membership of the ruling Congress party as well as from the post of MLA.
The meeting was attended by over 1000 workers/supporters of the MLA from every village of Tadubi Assembly Constituency who braved the early hour heavy downpour.
The meeting resolved that under any circumstances they would not vote for Congress candidate in Tadubi AC in the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
Further, the meeting resolved that they would support any political party other than Congress party chosen by the incumbent MLA of Tadubi AC.
Former NPO Secretary of Senapati area, Daniel Katomei said that the workers are not happy with the political party to which the incumbent MLA is affiliated.
He said that the present ruling Congress party is anti-tribal.
The unfortunate incident at Churachandpur on the ILP issue has not yet been resolved and it shows the biased attitude of the State Govt."All the workers are not against the MLA but against the political party he is associated with," added Daniel.
"We would support him if he joins any
political party at his own wisdom with the exception of Congress", added Gogo Kenelu of Upper Zeliangrong, another speaker of the meeting.
Active worker from IT Road Kuki area, Angam Gelnel said that they would support Francis Ngajokpa if he resigns from the Congress party and contest the election on the ticket of any other political party or as an independent candidate, but people would not support him if he contests on Naga People's Front (NPF) ticket.
Prominent active workers of Tadubi AC, Maram chief K Namba, Willong Circle chairman K Luikang Rajaimei and others also attended the meeting.
It may be mentioned that eight different ethnic communities are settled in the said constituency.
