Babysana's family harassed: TAKDO

Imphal, August 11 2019: The TAKDO has questioned the alleged harassment of Babysana's family members by police.

A public meeting was held today at Thangmeiband Khoyathong, Polem Leikai under the aegis of TAKDO in connection with the present status of the mysterious death case of Babysana.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, TAKDO women wing vice-president Maibam Inakhunbi pointed out that the whole State has been protesting and demanding justice to the mysterious death of Babysana.

Even though police claimed that Babysana's case is a case of suicide, TAKDO still has many misgivings, Inakhunbi said.

She then asked about the bruises seen on the legs and hands of Babysana.

She went on to ask why the notes written by Babysana were published in media and why the bereaved family is harassed.

The question of denying normal classes to the students of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School has nothing to do with the JAC, TAKDO or the people of Thangmeiband.

It is a question which must be resolved by the Government, she asserted.

She decried that male police personnel used physical forces while tackling girl students who were demanding justice in the mysterious death of Babysana.

TAKDO Tribal Forum Youth Wing president Gaidon Gangmei asserted that detention and arrest of JAC members and other protesters would never succeed in suppressing the ongoing mass movement for justice.

All sections of the society including the people of Thangmeiband would never accept the claim that Babysana committed suicide, Gaidon said.

He went on to assert Jhat Home Department and Education Department have failed in the case of Babysana.

TAKDO women wing member Meinam Chitrangada said that the public meeting held today adopted four resolutions.

The first resolution says that all arrested JAC members and other protesters should be released immediately without any condition.

The case of Babysana should be handed over to CBI within a week and harassment of Babysana's family members should be stopped immediately.

While strongly condemning the brute force unleashed by police upon student protesters, the meeting resolved that police should refrain from using excessive force against protesters in future.

Chitrangada said that the ongoing agitation would be further intensified if the Government does not give positive response to the resolutions/demands.

Notably, 14 year old Ningthoujam Babysana was found hung to death inside a hostel of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur on July 18.She was reading in Class VII at the same school.
