Thang-ta festival kicks off

A three-day Thangta festival was kick-started today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Konung Mamang under the aegis of Kangla Indigenous Martial Arts and Culture Society.
The inaugural function of the festival was graced by Dr Th Meinya, Lok Sabha MP and KIMACS president Saikhom Nodiya Mangang as the chief guest and president respectively.
Prof RK Ranjan, Director of College Development Council, Manipur University; Bedeshowr Sharma, Secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi; L Rajmohan, Secretary of BOSEM were the guests of honour.
Singnificantly, the festival has been organised to coincide with Khongjom Day.
A rally 'Ningshing Khongchat' was held this morning from Kangla which was flagged off by titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba.
A floral tribute was also paid to the dead warriors of Khongjom battle.
Delivering his speech, MP Dr Th Meinya observed that Thangta players required discipline, sincerety, punctuality, respect to teachers.
It encompassed good traits and discipline and as such it should be preserve as a sport.
Bedeshwar Sharma urged the Thangta teachers to teach their students with a vision to imbibe good moral to them.
L Rajmohon said in an attempt to propagate the good culture of Thangta, efforts have been made to include it in the school syllabus from class I to class X.Students from ten schools participated in the group Thangta competition today.
