Imphal, February 23 2019:
Nagaland Janata Dal United president NSN Senchumo Lotha has announced that the party will decide if they will field candidates for both inner and outer Parliamentary Constituencies of Manipur for the coming Lok Sabha election or just a single candidate for only one Constituency, during a JDU executive committee meeting which will be held at Patna on March 4 .
He made the statement during a political conference cum workshop which was organised by Phungyar Block JDU at Adim Jati today in connection with the fast approaching Lok Sabha election.
Speaking at the function, Senchumo Lotha, who is also the chairman of JDU NEEC, said that a tentative survey for possible contest in both the inner and outer Assembly Constituencies of the State, has been completed.
The report of the survey will be discussed by the party's Parliamentary committee and the resolution will be produced and deliberated at the National Executive committee meeting of the JDU at Patna on March 4 and the final decision will be taken, he added.
Pointing out that JDU was established based on secularism and socialism, he said that the party will contest the coming election with full might.
Replying to a query about the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Senchumo Lotha claimed that JDU was the first to raise a voice against the Bill.
The party protested against the Bill in May of 2015, he said adding that an executive meeting of the party which was held at Delhi, resolved to oppose the CAB.
Any Bill which is communal can never be passed, he added.
He further announced that if JDU comes to power in the Centre, any candidate who wins from the State will be inducted to the Ministry.
If Hangkhanpao Taithul wins, he will become a Minister, he added.
On the other hand, JDU Manipur unit president Hangkhanpao Taithul said that the CAB will be used as a powerful weapon by the political parties during the coming election.
JDU does not view the CAB as a small issue and has always been opposed to the Bill, he claimed.
