Imphal, February 23 2019:
February 25 is an auspicious day for all the players of the State as the day is celebrated annually at the State Level as "Shanaroisingi Numit or Players' Day" to mark the glorious day when hosts Manipur emerged overall team champions of the 5th National Games in 1999 and rightfully claimed the coveted Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy.
The State Government has been leading in the celebration right from the beginning and doing its best for the welfare of the sportspersons and promotion of sports in the State.
The State Government has initiated and announced many schemes and facilities for sportsperson and yet the performance of the State in National Games has been deteriorating except 2011 National Games held in Ranchi wherein Services topped the tally and Manipur finished second and first among participating States and Union Territories.
The poor results indicate that there are some lapses and loopholes that are hindering the performances of the players.
It is the high time the State Government take an initiative along with all stake holders to sort out the problems and find a solution to the matter.
Meanwhile, sports lovers of the State have expressed disappointment over unfulfillment of promises made by the State Government in last year's Players' Day celebration.
The Chief Minister, who was the chief guest of the function promised that the daily allowance of the players would be hiked upto Rs 500 but nothing has really changed although it is almost a year now.
Many are also in doubt whether amount sanctioned for renovation of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex by the 13th Finance Commission has been properly utilized.
On the other hand, the Government which remarked sportspersons make Manipur known to World in almost all occasion, is failing to recognise the efforts and achievements of players who have brought laurels to the State at various National and International events.
Many sports lovers also questioned unreasonable delayance of many sports complex projects in the State.
The players are facing lots of inconvenience while going to other States for National or International level event owing to high vehicle fares charged by the transporters and closure of counters to take Railway Concession Certificates has added more misery to the players and the members of the association.
If the State Government fails to introduce a policy to keep all the association in the State under a strict regulation, many unwanted incidents may arise in the coming days.
The players and all the sports lover in the State, which is considered as the power house of games and sports, are extremely worried by the changing landscape that is taking place in the sports sector in the
State.
