United Cubs' Organization of Bishnupur District has denounced the State Government for having disposed the body of Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang who committed self immolation for the cause of withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, against the wishes of the people.
In a statement, organization president L Priyokumar Singh asserted that the State Government had agreed for performance of last rites of the youth activists on August 19 after allowing the people to pay their last respect.
Then why did the Government created the body of Chittaranjan hurriedly without the approval of the bereaved family as well as against the wishes of the people, he asked, and added that such an action of the Government would only act like fuel to an already blazing fire.
Residents of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai and its surrounding area today paid rich floral tributes to Pebam Chittaranjan of Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai and K Memita of Taret Khul, who made supreme sacrificed for the people's cause during a memorial service held at the Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai office complex of South East Youth Organization.
The mass gathering also observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed souls and prayed to God for peaceful repose of the souls at their heavenly abode.
Meanwhile, South East Youth Organization, in a statement, has strongly condemned cremation of Pebam Chittaranjan's body without the approval of the bereaved family members by the Government.
The Organization also appealed to the Chief Minister to concede to the demand of the people for complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur before people come up with more serious forms of agitation.
In the same vein, Ningomthong Youth Voluntary Organization wondered how many human sacrifices would be required to wake up the State Government and make its realise the gravity of the situation prevailing in the State.
The supreme sacrifices made by P Chittaranjan and K Memita may not be the last, joint secretary of the organization Y Tomba warned in a statement.
Young Students Union Club, Sekmaijin Awang Leikai and Youth Development Organization, Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai have also condoled the death of P Chittaranjan and K Memita and prayed to God for peace to the departed souls.
While demanding complete removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, these social organizations have also categorically stated that the State Government should be held responsible for the death of Chittaranjan and Memita.
Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Ningthoukhong; Keishamthong Kendra Leikai Taragi Apunba Nupi Lup and Phambei Lup of Meetei Laining have also condoled the death of Pebam Chittaranjan and K Memita during separate condolence meeting held today.
They also flayed the Government for cremating the body of Chittaranjan against the wishes of the people.
Obituary: Members of Acoam-Lup, Imphal West observed two minutes silence to mourn the demise of Konjengbam Memita Devi and Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang and prayed for the peace rest of the departed soul in the heavenly abode.
The body also decried partial lifting of Disturbed Area Status contending that it tantamount of pursuing divide and rule policy.
