Imphal, May 19:
Acting on a complaint filed by Deputy Labour Commissioner E Tomba at Lamphel police station, police have registered an FIR case against a bus driver and some officials including a doctor for duping an insurance company with forged documents.
The complaint was filed after the Gauhati High Court has ruled that bus driver Ksh Khomei of Tera Lukram Leirak used fake birth certificate and medical certificate to get accident compensation of Rs 2,22,654 from United India Insurance Company Ltd, Imphal branch.
Even though the then Commissioner for worksmen's compensation Th Mangi directed the insurance company to award the amount to the driver, the company filed an appeal before the Gauhati High Court contending that documents submitted by the driver were forged ones.
Subsequently, the High Court over ruled the Commissioner's order and directed Khomei to refund the money to the Commissioner within two months.
The Court further maintained that the State's Chief Secretary should file FIR at concerned police station against the officials "who are prima facie found involved in the offences." Khomei, a passenger bus driver, met with an accident on NH 53 on January 20, 2002 when his bus collided head on with a
truck.
Though the medical certificate furnished by Khomei said that his right leg got fractured in the accident and has been unable to do normal work since then, the doctor involved in the fraudulence is a cardiologist.
The Court further observed that the Commissioner did not ask the claimant (Khomei) to produce his original driving licence and birth certificate.
