The Harm reduction program undertaken by the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) under Project Orchids is in full swing.
It was revealed today during a press conference held at TMNL (Tangkhul Youth Council) office at this afternoon.
TMNL President Yuimi Horam and general secretary cum chief functionary of the project Ramayo Makan were addressing the media.
Yuimi maintained that during the last nine months, a sum of Rs 10 lakh was utilised under the project at the two Intravenous Drug Users (IDU) drop-in-centre (DIC) in Chingai and Phungyar block.
Around 400 IDUs were being treated regularly and systematically, he said and added that the outcome of the project could be seen clearly by the villagers with the decrease number of IDUs in the past nine months.
He further stated that due to this success, another six months's period has been extended that will continue upto September this year.
Huimi further said that the success is due to TMNL organisation working at the grass-root level with its 'action oriented task force'.
It dealt with all types of intoxicants including tobacco, talab, alcohol and cigarettes, he added.
However, TMNL expressed reservations over not clearing of salary of staff and workers for five to six months.
