Three people including a former Superintendent of Taxation Department have been injured in a grenade attack at the residence of the Superintendent at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai this evening.
According to a police source, former Superintendent Modhu (64) was parking his car at the courtyard when a hand grenade lobbed by some unidentified persons landed near the verandah and exploded.
Modhu sustained shrapnel injuries on right calf and back.
Two other people�� Laishram Deben (50) of Ngairangbam but staying on rent in the neighbourhood and Khuraijam Tiken (35) of Waikhong, who were at Modhu's house at the time of the explosion also sustained injuries.
All three of them were rushed to Raj Polyclinic.
Both the right windows of Modhu's car (Alto) and a plastic water tank were also damaged by the explosion.
Modhu retired from service in June this year.
The attack might be related to extortion, said the police source.
In connection with the grenade attack, a case has been registered at Lamphel police station.
